Cervix with a View

Last week I had an appointment for yet another ultrasound – both external and transvaginal – to check on the state of my Essure™ since I’d had the procedure done last year, and to see if my pesky ovarian cyst was still in place. (What’s an Essure? That’s the wee thing that makes me permanently baby-proofed. Yay!) I figured this was a good opportunity to finally snap myself some in-hospital Scavenger Hunt photos, given I’d bailed on the opportunity the previous time!

Essure to Take Off the Pressure

For the last few days I’ve had a continuing, cheerful, refrain in my head, which goes like this:

Nooooo [pause] babeeeez for meeeeee…!

Why the refrain? Well, it’s because a) I don’t want to have children, b) I’ve never wanted to have children, and c) my gynaecologist has known me long enough that he’s agreed to d) get me and permanent contraception hooked up. In other words e) sterilised.

Descending

I’ve known all my life that I don’t want to have kids. It’s been part of who I am, along with my green eyes and my size 10 feet: no children for me, please.

As such, I’ve been on birth-control since I was fourteen. In the nearly twenty years since, I’ve variously utilised pills, condoms, spermicide, IUDs, and diaphragms. So much work to have the sex without the baby-creation, but it was worth it!
