Glam at the Parade

Posted on | February 20, 2013 | 14 Comments |

Last weekend was the Auckland Pride Parade – the first parade celebrating the Rainbow community in Auckland for 12 years, since Hero was pushed out of operation. So it was fantastic to be able to attend!

I had been invited to take part with the express crew, but declined – as the long walk down Ponsonby Road, in addition to the crowds and music, would have been too much for me. Instead, my wonderful editor hooked me up with tickets to the GABA GlamStand, so Hylas and I were able to watch in comfort with a brilliant view, all with a complimentary drink to boot.

The theme for this year’s parade was ‘One Community’, and it was well-reflected and represented. The love was thoroughly felt. And I yelled and waved and photographed and hooted and jiggled and beamed as everyone went past (and I was not the only one, for sure)!

If you click through, you’ll get a rare view of my orange-clad photographer!

It seemed like an excellent time to bring out my beautiful Gallery Serpentine parasol, which matches perfectly with my red dress o’ cleavage (a birthday gift from Hylas a few years ago, it is one of my most cherished non-antique parasols). It was copiously complimented, which was lovely!

Click for a paparazzi-like shot – I was caught by surprise…

Of course, I am completely unused to wearing contact lenses in the daytime (I only rarely wear them these days, and it’s usually for nighttime parties), so I kept forgetting I had sunglasses on! Oh no, another photo!

The parade itself was absolutely amazing. We came away with over 600 photos, and some incredible memories. Not to mention a Scavenger Hunt photo caught on those bleachers. Yes, really :)

Here’s to 2014!

    Hi Dee,
Awesome you got to attend, it’s so good it’s back on again and hopefully will grow and grow again. There aren’t many times you see the fruitier side of NZ out in the open…well when the likes of you (And I and other shameless exhibitionists aren’t ‘doing their bit’ lol. Am I to take it you kept everything on for this trip to town:-)

Twisted Angel – *beams* Thank you!

Malflic – It was fantastic. Really glad to have had the chance to sit for part of it, though.

Molly – And now I’m blushing. Because that one was utterly unplanned, and I glared at Hylas for it. But it came out really well :)

Rebel – I never used to like wearing red because it highlighted my red cheeks. Now I love it!

Beck – I’m not always… but I tend to photograph those times less often.

Rachel – Thank you so much! What a lovely compliment.

Kazi – I have no way of comparing the two! Certainly I think our Pride parade did Auckland proud :)

    Kiwiana – *smooches*

Amie – It’s the contact lenses and the heat. That’s all!

Sexcentric – Hells no! I got three scavenger hunt locations that day. There’ll be one up this Sunday :)

Harper – It is absolutely gorgeous, isn’t it? One of my favourites.

    xx Dee
