Rocky Shore

One of the wonderful things about Kazi is that she’s – whether intentionally or not – always challenging me to find amazing places in the Scavenger Hunt. And while I’m really not much for hiking or tramping, I really did want to get ‘Rocks (big ones)’ knocked off my list after she did it earlier in the year.

A few weekends ago my beloved Apollo was staying out by Piha, a wild and woolly West Coast beach that also happens to be the home of Lion Rock: one of the biggest rocks I know! While the last thing I was going to do was climb it (I knocked that bastard off as a teenager, and I still remember that climbing down it was more of a shit that climbing up – my legs were wobbly for days afterwards), I still figured that where there was one rock, there might be others…

That’s Lion Rock behind me. It’s enormous, really.

Apollo, my niece (who was staying with us for the weekend) and myself wandered down the beach – avoiding the bluebottles stranded on the black sand and their long trailing stingers. The wind attempted to blow my hat off, and I was very glad I’d left my parasol in the car, for once.

And what do you know? We found a rock that suited much better!

Yes, that’s bonus niece arm on the right – all you’ll get to see of her :)

But as she wandered down a bit closer to the water and looked out at the ocean, I took the opportunity to lean in close to the rock, hike my skirt up high and tuck my togs into my arse crack, and get Apollo to snap a photo of me doing what I do best – being inappropriate just when I shouldn’t be:

No, I wouldn’t corrupt my niece. Give her a few years yet… *cough*

But I got the pic I wanted!

Don’t get sunburnt :)

Love Piha, it’s such a wild place, and this is fittingly wild picture. Agree that rock is a bit of a bastard to climb up!

Yay for being inappropriate in times we shouldn’t :) You look so innocent in the first 2 photos, I bet no one even suspected your scavenging! ;)

I saw some perfect rocks the other day while we were out taking pictures on our trip to Philiy but unfortunately it was right by the road… but we are heading out again today so you never know. Maybe rocks will be one my ‘done’ list soon too!

Where I walk my dog there are some awesome rocks and I always want to get a shot by them. Now with the camera, I can do it. Besides our ass looking fab, our smile is always so bright! Love the photos!

Beautiful location, but it’s the sexy woman in the pink hat that’s the real draw here. Bonus points for not corrupting your niece…yet. ;)

Love sharing this adventure! Thank you!

Pardon me for saying so, but your naked hind view is just sooo lovely…

Rebel – I take my moments when I can get them! And my niece knows me well – she just sighs heavily and says “Okay, auntie,” and goes over there for a few minutes :)

O – You’ve had the pleasure? It’s an amazing place. Of the West Coast beaches Muriwai is my favourite, but I do like Piha very much as well.

Penny – Not unless they were blog readers!

Kazi – My pleasure – you totally deserve it :)

Molly – It’s amazing the number the awesome places are that ‘right by the road’. Of course, those are the ones that are easiest to spot…

Bambi – It’s lovely there. But so much of New Zealand is!

Kim – You have a camera now? Excellent! More photos is definitely a good thing. *grin*

Jack and Jill – Nah, I’m just the embarrassing auntie – but I’m the one she can always talk to about anything, so that makes up for a lot of stuff. Plus, I have the great books!

Simone – You’re totally pardoned. In fact, that’s a compliment and I’m taking it and running with it :)

geekynymph – Thank you and yes indeed! The first post of my seven day blogaversary celebration is just about to go up!

    xx Dee
