Salamander Fountain

On our epic Scavenging day last weekend, Kiana, Hylas and I wandered down High Street in the Auckland CBD, which brought us to Freyberg Square. And this fountain was burbling my name! With a motto like this? I really needed to be photographed with it. Or, once Hylas challenged me, in it. The square was utterly deserted as I took off my socks and shoes, and I was quite confident that it would be no problem to snap some shots.

Of course, it’s the middle of winter here. That water was fucking freezing! Even though it was a gorgeous day, I was still wearing a cardigan, and only taken it off for photos. So cold feet really wasn’t a metaphor…
And of course, once I got those feet in the fountain, the square was suddenly utterly swarmed with people! I froclicked a bit for pictures, and then eventually I just sat and waited. Lord Freyberg didn’t seem to mind the company, which was nice. Which was kind of the point of having an entire square for it, I guess.
Eventually the pedestrians decided to be walking elsewhere, and we got our photos. Take that, Auckland central! Have some more of my tits! (Hmm. I wonder just how many closed circuit cameras caught that?) What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon, hey?

The shot of you sitting beneath “To Thine Own Self Be True” is a beautiful and appropos shot, and it makes us sincerely wish that such sentiment was more highly valued in the U.S. than “Stop Thinking and Do As We Say”.
We love the second shot for the lovely rear view. We love the second click-through for the expression of unbridled joy on your face. In the third click-through, it looks like Lord Freyberg is trying to look without being too obvious about it. Our favorite, overall? Likely the fourth shot. “Have some more of my tits” is something we’ve long wanted to hear (or read) you say.

OMG, these are wonderful. You are so brave to make photos with shops so close by! Indeed, I wonder how many other cameras have seen you. That makes Scavenger Hunting just so much more fun!
