Yesterday afternoon Hylas, Kiana and I went on a grand Scavenger Hunt location trek in the central city – and had a fantastic time! We successfully tracked down and knocked off six sites (and if we failed in three others that we wanted to do, well, we still had a loads of fun).
The one fail that was particularly irking us was ‘graffiti’. I mean, it’s the city – there should be graffiti everywhere! But every place we could think of where there’s normally loads had been cleaned up, painted over, and generally made nice. Dammit! As we made our way home, we stopped off in a few other spots just in case. But no – the council had been busy here, too.
But look at what we did, find, as an epic bonus to the day: giant pipes!
(click on all pics for extras)
These are actually beneath the Auckland Harbour Bridge on the North Shore side, in what’s not really much of a construction area – all there was were these pipes, some orange cones, and the most pathetic ‘keep out’ tape ever. I mean, why tape by the front and back of the pipes, and not at the side? And no, we have absolutely no idea what the pipes are supposed to be for. But we had a great time scampering around them, beneath the clackety roar of the motorway traffic above our heads.
In the distance behind me, where you can see houses, there were people ambling by walking their dogs. And to the left out of shot, where we parked the car, were a lot of discarded bottles. It looks like it’s quite popular with ‘yoof’ at night.
Kiana decided that if I was going to be on a pipe, she wanted to be in a pipe. But only if it was clean. Well, it was a bit dusty, but I had towels in the boot of the car (what? I am a prepared for anything kind of person). So in she went!
Then we thought, seeing as there were two pipes, and two towels, that it might be fun to have a pipe each. And I discovered that I like lying in a pipe nearly as much as I like being a cage. I got very giggly and happy.
Yes, I could have stayed here for quite some time.
Those six other Scavenger Hunt sites will be up in the coming weeks. The wonderful Hylas photographed them all, including this one!
