Intriguing Reading #28

My regular roundup of interesting reads, found from all over the place.

Cunt: “For me, cunt has all of the connotations of the word home – warmth, depth, possession, safety, and comfort. My cunt is my special place where nice things happen. At least now it is.” (Evoë Thorne)

My Saturday Night: “In this relationship, it’s actually never occurred to me to wonder if I am respected or valued or seen as an equal. I know I am. In the past I’ve been sexually and physically abused, and I’ve been in relationships that were psychologically abusive. I know when I’m being abused, and when I’m not. Anyone who wants to suggest I don’t, go right ahead. I have no problem with other people coming across as patronising ignorant fuckwits.” (Emma Hart / The Lady Garden)

Hollywood’s Problem With Senior-Citizen Sex: “Because that’s just one more thing that makes older women sexy: It’s not just the world and their young lovers that they’re wise about. It’s also their bodies, themselves.” (Maura Kelly / The Atlantic)

Sexual Harassment or Unwanted Sexual Attention? “If we can’t even handle a friendly sexual invitation in a genuinely safe environment without losing our composure, how can we tolerate the rough-and-tumble of the world out there? Learning to say things like “that feels bad, please stop,” “I don’t like that you said that,” “You have obviously misread me completely,” and “I don’t think anyone would like what you just did” involves a fundamental skill that every grownup needs.” (Dr. Marty Klein)

Photographing your own arse!: I set up my Lumix compact on some books on the table in the RV. Set the self timer and then moved into view and bent over so that my arse would be centre frame. Tarter, my cat, jumped up on the table to look at the camera. Result: out of focus picture of a cat’s nose. Remove the cat and start over. (Fred Bloggs)

Fabulous Feminist Porn: “An assumption exists that porn made for a female audience is “soft”, with lots of candles, romance, kissing and minimal hardcore sex. Yet the women making and watching feminist porn have shown themselves to be eager for all kinds of sex acts and sexual pairings. Beyond the “standard” male-female heterosexual sex, feminist porn cheerfully depicts lesbian, gay, transgender and queer sex, fisting, female ejaculation, BDSM and power play scenes, rough sex, group sex and solo masturbation scenes, among many others.” (Louise Lush / Feminist Porn Guide)

Labia Modification in Mozambique and Australia: “After a recent workshop I taught, a colleague of mine shared with me that in Mozambique (her home country), women are taught before they get married to lengthen their labia minora. She described how women will gently stretch their labia minora in the hopes of making it longer and better able to “wrap around the penis” and increase both partners’ sensation.” (Kate McCombs / My Sex Professor)
