Surprise
She liked surprising him. A toy; a newly-learned maneuver; an eventful journey. This surprise was different.
She waited abed, clad in underwear and a smile. When he arrived he smiled then kissed her, appreciative of her attire.
“Did you want something, my love?”

Staying Safe
I don’t often talk about what killed my brother. While I don’t shy away from talk of suicide (my mother’s death) or bowel cancer (my father’s), somehow – despite my job and my blog – I don’t often talk about AIDS.
My brother caught HIV, six years ago. He died from Kaposi’s Sarcoma, a cancer many AIDS patients get. He sucked the health lemon, getting sick fast, and dying in under a decade. And I should probably talk about it.

View from the Back Door
Remember last year when Hylas and I took a holiday in the Coromandel? There was a lovely train trip, bees, and a sexy shower as well!
Finally, it’s time for more of he awesome photographs we took on that journey. This week, that same awesome house which had the copper piping in the bathroom. Yes, that’s a door. A door in a wall, which opened into the lounge. It wasn’t the main door – but a very awesome one nonetheless!

Attack of the tchotchkes
Just as I like the labels I choose to wear, I also like the stuff I choose to own (which seems obvious, but really isn’t). They aren’t the all of what I am, but looking around at my material goods you get some idea of the person I am, the relationship Apollo and I have, and the life we live.
Let me tour you through the house of us. This was our last house, this is our current house, this will be our next house. First was books. Now it’s ornaments:

Books are life
We’re moving house in two weeks. Life right now is a whirlwind of sorting, packing, cursing, labelling, and occasionally even going to work in-between it all (writing, alas, has moved so far down the must-do list that it’s been quite neglected).
It’s been four years since the last move, and it’s the first once in over a decade where the currently-owned stuff is larger than the place it’s going to be moved to. When means downsizing. Do we need this? Will we ever read that again? What in the hell was I thinking when I brought that home? One mother of a garage sale is going to take place before we shift – and won’t that be fun?

Summer dreaming
It was too damned hot. Too hot to think. Too hot to sleep. Too hot to remain in the humid, sweaty, indoors.
She flung back the clammy bedsheets and wandered, naked, through the lounge and kitchen to the back door. As she stepped out into the night-time she felt the pathway radiating residual warmth through her soles, and she smiled at the contrast between that and the light, flickering breeze. Her nipples perked as her skin enjoyed the intermittent cool, and she smiled. This was a far better place to rest than the bed indoors.

Sparkle time
Have you heard of German Sparkle Party? Do you have party pants and rubber boots? It’s awesome, it’s fun to dance to, it’s tacky, and – above all – it’s sparkly!
The awesome German Sparkle Party has become quite popular in our crowd, so I was delighted when Hylas announced that his New Years Eve party, to see out 2010 and see in 2011, would have a theme of – wait for it – German Sparkle Party. Alas, both Amie and Kiana were going to miss out (being overseas), but the rest of us would make sure we had a very sparkly time indeed…
