Gates of Hell

Last week Apollo and I were off on a long-overdue holiday – and it was fantastic! In addition to a whole lot of relaxing (and skinny-dipping in the lake), we also did some tourist-y stuff. On Wednesday, we headed off to Hell’s Gate Thermal Park –  a geothermal area near Rotorua, which is stinky, bubbly, absolutely stunning, and perfect for perverts…

And, being the middle of summer, a parasol was a necessity!

This particular parasol is lovely plain white paper, with a wooden handle and spokes. It was a Giftmas present from Adonis, and it looked very elegant against the steamy backdrop of Hell’s Gate – and contrasted brilliantly with my orange top! Also, being one of my larger parasols, it did a great job protecting me from the hot sun.

Walking about the entirety of Hell’s Gate took about an hour (sneakers were essential), and there was plenty to see! Mud pools, fumaroles, steam and geysers and bubbling water and more (you can look at this youtube clip if you want to see them in action). Apollo took lots of pictures of me, which was good – but he also took rather a lot where I am nowhere to be seen, and the focus is on the geothermal activity instead. *grin*

Naturally, I think the best pictures manage to have both!

If you’re ever in New Zealand and you visit Rotorua, I can definitely recommend Hell’s Gate – it’s like stepping back in time to primitive earth formation, endlessly fascinating, and very pretty!

As a massive Lord of the Rings fan, I just know I’m going to end up in New Zealand one day for a visit. I’ll make sure I stop by there! Looks interesting.

This HNT wins for thermal steaminess, great scenery, curvaceousness and parasol content!

I love absolutely everything about that first pic. The others are fabulous as well, but that first one really sings.

And I’m seriously envious of your parasol, and your vacation…but mostly your parasol. As a similarly light skinned girl, I mostly just stay in the shade and use tons of sunblock, but maybe I’ll start collecting parasols of my own…

Hylas – Mud is fun! This mud was a little too hot for playing in, though.

Miss Serenity – It was a great place to visit, although it made for a perspiring walk.

Ms Lily – Thank you! I’m glad it was a good holiday, too.

Petal – I was saying to Apollo as he took photos of me, “You know, I think this’ll be the first HNT taken in front of bubbling mud pools!” I really do like having interesting backgrounds to my interesting photos :)

sweettart – My top is actually orange … but it’s a very red orange!

stealth – You’ve missed me? It’s good that I’m back, then.

Geneveive – Apollo had to walk a good five minutes to get to the other side of that mud pool – but it was worth it for the beautiful photo he got!

Panser – *claps delightedly* You totally should. This place is just as beautiful – if not more – than it looks in the movies.

frenchies – I do love my parasols. I take them out a lot, and get a lot of looks out on the street :)

Britni – I’ve shown it a few times now, but always in click-through pics. Thank you for the compliment, hon!

Amy – Elegant is always a great compliment. Thank you :)

    his baby doll – *blushes*

vanimp – Just call me a vamp :)

Kyle – It wins? What does it win? *grins*

tepid – There are plenty of parasols out there. Time to get yourself one? (Or two, or three, or more …)

Laura – I think more people need to be using parasols. They’re not too hard to find – about three-quarters of mine are second-hand or vintage, but you can get them new, too!

Dana – Everyone loves that first image! Thanks, hon :)

mina, Aurore, Emmy, Vixen, southerngirl, Felicity, Ms Scarlett, viemoira – Many thanks for the compliments :)

    xx to all,
