Last week Apollo and I were off on a long-overdue holiday – and it was fantastic! In addition to a whole lot of relaxing (and skinny-dipping in the lake), we also did some tourist-y stuff. On Wednesday, we headed off to Hell’s Gate Thermal Park – a geothermal area near Rotorua, which is stinky, bubbly, absolutely stunning, and perfect for perverts…
And, being the middle of summer, a parasol was a necessity!

This particular parasol is lovely plain white paper, with a wooden handle and spokes. It was a Giftmas present from Adonis, and it looked very elegant against the steamy backdrop of Hell’s Gate – and contrasted brilliantly with my orange top! Also, being one of my larger parasols, it did a great job protecting me from the hot sun.

Walking about the entirety of Hell’s Gate took about an hour (sneakers were essential), and there was plenty to see! Mud pools, fumaroles, steam and geysers and bubbling water and more (you can look at this youtube clip if you want to see them in action). Apollo took lots of pictures of me, which was good – but he also took rather a lot where I am nowhere to be seen, and the focus is on the geothermal activity instead. *grin*

Naturally, I think the best pictures manage to have both!
If you’re ever in New Zealand and you visit Rotorua, I can definitely recommend Hell’s Gate – it’s like stepping back in time to primitive earth formation, endlessly fascinating, and very pretty!
