I could never figure out the appeal of penis pumps (not having a penis of my own may have had something to do with that) but the concept of a clitoral pump definitely struck a chord. So when I had the opportunity to review the Selene Vibrating Clitoral Pump, I was gleeful at the prospect! I do love playing with my clit – not just rubbing, but also pinching and pulling, and then getting rough and using pegs and teeth on it. Suction would be a new experience.
I’ve had good experiences with Berman Center toys in the past, so was unsurprised that it arrived well-packaged, and with a sheer bag to keep the pump and it’s various attachments in. This is what you get in your box: A hand pump (ie: you squeeze it), with purge valve; 2 silicone sleeves – one smooth and one noduled; and the main toy body, where motor is and batteries go. It also had a small rectangle of foam with it, which was quite perplexing until I realised there is another one that sits between the motor and the silicone sleeve – and it’s there to prevent overheating issues. Nice to have a spare!
Alas, the colour was not as purple as I’d hoped, being instead more of a lavender shade. And something I didn’t notice until it arrived was that the pump itself has wee hearts textured on it, and the purge button is itself heart-shaped! Add to that the main body of the toy has silver glitter embossed on it … and it was all a little over the top for me. I like my toys a little more, well, butch. But still, appearances aren’t everything. So it was time to try it out.
Taking the silicone sleeves off isn’t too difficult – but putting the other one on can be a bit of a challenge. Don’t try to do this when you have lube on your fingers, as it’s a sure-fire way to accidentally fling the sleeve across the room. However, this does mean that the sleeves sit very firmly, and that the suction can get through.
We started with the smooth sleeve, and I really wasn’t too impressed with the results, as I wasn’t feeling much suction. However when we removed it to try the noduled one instead, Adonis discovered that there was partially-cleared hole at the base of the sleeve (where the air is supposed to be sucked through). Apparently the production machine hadn’t completely cut through this (we compared it with the other sleeve to make sure we weren’t doing something terrible to it), so we carefully took the end of a blade to it, clearing the circle of silicone away. Then we wrestled it back onto the pump, and tried again. Much more successful, and we were away!
Unsure of the strength of the pump, we first started by trying it on the palm of our hands. The pressure was quite reasonable, so it was with few qualms that I agreed to try it on my nipples. For those who don’t know, I have very sensitive nipples, so was unsure how it was going to go! As it was I really enjoyed the sensation of having the sleeve tighten around my aureole and seeing my nipple pop out and out and further out – it’s been a long time since my nipples were so extended! I discovered later (like, the next day) that this had increased the sensitivity of my nipples, and I was shuddering every time they brushed across something for quite some time.
On to the clit. Oh. My. God. *ahem* So here’s the thing. I really liked this on my clit. I liked the smooth sleeve, but I really liked the noduled one. It was like tiny fronds or tentacles teasing me, absolutely mercilessly – there was no escaping them, as the suction pulled my clit out and right into the centre of them. Again, like my nipples, this left me with increased sensitivity for the next few days.
I really enjoyed this toy being used on me, but with some trial and error worked out that I could use it on my own as well. For me it took away a little of the fun, being able to control the suction – but it’s good to know that I can use it to either warm myself up, or get myself off, if I choose to.
The vibrations, generally, didn’t do as much for me as the pump did – I would have been just as happy to use this toy as a pump with no vibes, but we tried them out at well. Because there was only one speed – a decent speed, but no variation – I got bored with it. I found that using the pump to work me up, then turning on the vibration when I wasn’t expecting it had good results, though!
I was feeling the aftereffects of this toy for a few days. Normally I wouldn’t play with it for so long. But it sure was fun experimenting!
Many thanks to Adonis for assisting me with experiments; and to Aphrodite for her photographic prowess.
Verdict: Good suction, which is what you want. Very ‘pretty princess’ presentation. Perfect for a wanking session warm-up.
